Icy Mess and 65 Degrees

The horses went out in this slippery stuff, but I brought them back in early because it was too icy. Siete pitched a fit, rearing and carrying on like I've never seen her. She's full of energy, but smart enough to know not to run on the ice.

That sheet of ice looks quite a nuisance. You could put cinders on icy paths, however there isn't a lot to do about a slippery paddock (unless you spread a lot of cinders or gravel). I'd worry about horses slipping and getting legs under the fence, though your two sound intelligent and self-preserving.

Wow that looks really dangerous, especially for the horses. Poor Siete. From what I have seen in other blogs, America looks like it's having a terrible time with the weather. Let's just hope it all sorts itself out soon! Where we live in the UK, we had a bad hail downpour last night; hail, thunder and lightening. It's not even half as bad as it is where you. Temperatures are starting to rise again but with it comes rain...for days and days, it's so depressing:(
Hope Siete can have her fun and the temperatures rise for you soon. All the best, from Meg and cats xxx

Thanks, Julian and Meg, for confirming that I did the right thing. Siete got her leg caught under the fence last year. Luckily, it's a flexible plastic, so she pulled herself out. She learned her lesson. Silk is much more cautious.

I think ice is the only thing worse than mud. But maybe not. Neither is nice.

Your horses are truly blessed... despite the ice and winter wind.
