It’s only 23 days until Spring officially arrives - March 20th. We did see a hint of it today. Silk and Siete were out in the pasture. I was filling water buckets in the barn when I heard this strange noise. “Schlush, schlush, schlush…”
There was Silk in the middle of the snow, digging with her hoof. Suddenly, her nose was down in the snow, and she was burrowing frantically, Siete stopped eating hay and ran over to investigate. The two of them were nose to nose in the snow. My curiosity got the better of me. I had to join them.
OMG! There were the tiniest little blades of new green grass coming up under the snow. The girls were gobbling them up, and who could blame them? What can I say, it made our day.

Just like I said on my blog,yesterday, Spring is coming, it is only about 2 weeks away, give or take, and the weather may warm up even sooner. It's amazing the horses are smart enough to know the grass is under the snow, they don't have a calendar on their stall wall to go by. Do you think they are smarter than we are? I do.
Yay! That's the best news I've heard all day.
Our herd are all starting to shed, which is a good indicator that spring is coming.
I can't wait for spring! The closer it get's it seems the longer I wait or maybe I am just impatient. Great pictures of your horses! They are so beutiful!
Wonderful news! Spring is definitly on its way. I still have some snow on the ground in my area, so I can't wait for it to come!

I know you are eager for spring and the green, but those photos look so lovely to me.
We know it is almost spring out here in LA because the hills are green and not the brown they will revert to after a few weeks of 80 and 90 degree weather. I'm looking forward to my lesson tonight because it won't be in the dark and it will probably be in the upper 60s or lower 70s. And it hasn't rained since Sunday, so the arena is no longer slop.
I'm looking forward to the spring too, and I've already seen robins!
When the grass comes in, it will be packed with carbs and very, very rich. Horses fatten up fast on spring grass, and if they are already 'plump,' they might founder.
