Happy Horse

Can you tell when your horse is happy? I can see it in Silk’s eyes. She gets a certain look that lets me know that all is right in her world. Yesterday, it wasn’t. Today, she has a relaxed softness that says it’s a good day.

I’m doing the chores that I don’t like to do. I’ve dumped and scrubbed all the water buckets and re-filled them. I’ve cleaned up the area where I store the hay. I’ve picked up all the branches that fell during the winds yesterday. I’m trying to not get annoyed by the raucous baby birds who are pooping all over the feeder in Silk’s stall while their mama dives at me in attack mode.

Now I’m going to take a moment to sit in the Adirondack chair that I’ve put under the hickory tree. It’s time to just do nothing for a few minutes but watch my horses eat grass. I might even bring a glass of iced tea with me.

P.S. My angel dog, Pepper, who is 13 years old, rests right by my side, as always.

You may be very upset with me for this... but I have to take the chance... I know how much you care for horses... and you have lots of horse friends and connections...

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - check out www.refugefarms.blogspot.com

This is the blog of the horse rescue farm that I have written to you about several times... she is writing a story about one of the horses she rescued... breaks my heart.

Cassie - I'm not upset with you for being so touched by the stories that Sandy tells at her Refuge Farms blog. There are many many wonderful people in this world helping horses in need. They all want more help and money and anything that will help the animals. We all have our favorites, and I'm glad that you are interested in helping Sandy. I hope that you are writing about her efforts on your blog. She sounds like a real angel for horses.

Now, I love scrubbing buckets and troughs. Call me weird! I would get annoyed with bird poop, though. Sounds like you deserve a nice rest with iced tea!

I don't mind the water bucket scrubbing, but bird poop and swoop is out. I once had a bird get tangled in my hair as a child and he pooped on my head. Since then I haven't liked birds close to me much. I can always tell when the horses are happy, you can just see it. My guy used to actually give me kisses and hugs, I miss that. Last week at the farm though I was playing with Donnie and hugged his neck and he gave me the biggest hug back I've ever had. It felt pretty good. I will have to keep those apples in my pockets more often.
I'm all for the iced tea and putting your feet up. Have a great day.

Your girls have a very good home there with you. It looks like a beautiful day there today and I'm envious of your tea break under the trees. I'm also very taken with Pepper. She (?) definitely looks like an angel worthy of lots of hugs, kisses, and belly rubs.

Blessings,
Carolynn

Pepper is so beautiful! It sure is looking green around your place...isn't it nice?
I can tell when My Boy is happy. He perks his ears and his overall appearance and body language "lights up." Mostly when he sees food, lol! No, really, I think he enjoys me, too! ;)

I love seeing what brings that soft happy eye to my horses. I've done a lot of watching them while they get their chiro and massage work, and there is an entire bouquet of expressions that all have meaning to me now.

Keil Bay actually has one that goes beyond the very happy soft eye. He yawns and rolls his eyeballs around - it's sort of a "I'm so happy I've gone over the edge to goofy" eye.

Glad you had such a happy horse and relaxing day.

I swear I can see your reflection in her eye!

Thanks for understanding... I read her blogs and sit and cry like a baby... How could someone treat these magnificent animals that way??? The last one about how these men wanted to get the horse into the trailer - just did me in... why would anyone think it would be ok to hit a horse with a board with nails in it???

Yes - I write about her on my blog ... but the only people that read my blog are my friends... and they don't get my feelings for horses...

Thanks again for understanding... I'm trying to do whatever I can to get the word out about the work that she does at Refuge Farms.

It's nice to have time to do nothing except drinking a tea and looking at the horses.
Have a good sunday
