Goodbye Velcro

The King is dead. There were no more miracles for Velcro, so he left this world painlessly yesterday, and we buried him on the hill above the barn next to his buddy, Black Kitty.

I woke up this morning because I heard him purring above my head just outside the window. Only not really. And now, everywhere I turn, there is something to remind me of him.  The cat bed in the bay window, the Mexican blanket on my favorite armchair still covered in fur, the rug that is flipped up in the bathroom for him to rest on the heating vent.  For fifteen years, he has been my shadow, running to the door to greet me when I come home and following me constantly, always ready to jump into my lap insistent that it was time for a snuggle.

He had a long, happy life. He is greatly missed. The pictures tell the story:

Thanks, Kate. It does help to have so many wonderful memories and photos. Fifteen years went by so fast.

So sorry to hear about Velcro. But sometimes we have to make hard decisions for their sake.

I know how you feel. This past Monday we had to say goodbye to Murphy after 12 years. Feel better. It takes time, I still expect to see him, then realize he's not here.

Velcro was a very handsome orange cat, and looks pretty snuggly in those pictures.

So sorry to hear this Victoria. It seems you've had a lot of loss recently... thinking of you. (((hugs)))

So sorry for your loss. That heartache is why I declared I would never have another animal. That was until God decided I need 2 more cats and they found there way into my heart. Cherish those memories.

I'm so sorry for your loss Victoria. He was indeed, a very handsome fellow. Isn't it amazing just how much companionship our animals are to us? May the king rest in peace...

Oh Arlene - I'm so sorry about Murphy - he was such a sweetheart. I wish these four-legged family members could live to be as old as people do.

Thanks Everyone for your kind thoughts. Velcro was a curmudgeon, but he was very much loved by us.

beautiful pictures! So sorry for you loss. It is so hard, they become such part of the family. Tonight I was visiting my parents and I saw our old cat lily. I feel her time is near. I sat and petted her for a while. We rescued her, it was mostly me that insisted they start feeding her as I found her in the yard, hunting birds to survive. She is white with two different colored eyes. A total sweet heart.
